The Toronto Blue Jays host the Houston Astros in the opener of a four-game series on Canada Day, and we offer our Astros vs. Blue Jays player props based on the best MLB  odds.

After splitting a four-game home series with the New York Yankees over the weekend, the Blue Jays now have failed to win any of their last four series, losing two and splitting two.

Meanwhile, Houston is 12-4 in its last 16 games and just rebounded to win the final two out of three games against the New York Mets over the weekend after having its seven-game winning streak snapped in the series opener. That series victory over New York was no small task, as the Mets had won 16 of 21 coming into the series finale.

Astros vs. Blue Jays expert picks

Astros righty Brown is in position to be the AL Pitcher of the Month for June and has posted a 1.22 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with a 45:8 K:BB ratio over his previous six starts dating back to May 28. Brown's 1.16 ERA in June was the best of all qualified starting pitchers, and his 2.96 FIP ranked in the top 17 for the month. He ranks eighth in the most whiffs induced of all starting pitchers over their last 300 pitches thrown and has allowed just one barrel in that span.

Each of his last six outings has been a quality start, and he will likely be called on again to be a workhorse as Houston used seven relievers in a bullpen game in Sunday's series finale against the Mets.

Houston has padded its record against teams with losing records this year, going 29-19 against teams under .500 and 13-22 against teams over .500. The Astros have out-scored opponents 19-4 in his last four starts, with him earning the victory in all of them, and thus this is a three-star play for him to keep that streak going.

Perhaps no player in the league has been hotter than Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over the last two weeks, but other Blue Jays hitters may have to step up today after he was removed from Sunday's game after getting hit on the hand with a Gerrit Cole pitch. Odds are that player will be Turner, despite him slashing .230/.351/.345 against right-handed pitchers this year.

Turner has a seven-game hit streak going and has hit safely in 10 of his last 11, raising his batting average by 19 points in the process. He had an extra-base hit in two of the three games against the Yankees, and his .452 xSLG against fastballs gives us confidence that he can provide one single today. Take advantage of these generous +100 odds for Turner to specifically hit at least one single, as the Over 0.5 for his total bases prop is juiced to -182.

Best odds: +100 via Betway

Astros slugger Alv arez has not had an RBI in six consecutive games, but that is likely to change soon, especially since the lefty had slashed .368/.478/.526 over the last seven days entering Sunday's series finale. Alvarez has been a model of consistency for quite some time, as he has batted .351 over the last 15 days and .356 over the previous 30.

He finished June with a 1.139 OPS, and we expect him to succeed against Blue Jays rookie Yariel Rodriguez, who has a .333 OBA through two home starts in his young career. In addition, Alvarez is batting .303 against fastballs this season, which is a pitch Rodriguez throws 40.9% of the time to left-handed batters.

Best odds: +137 via Betway
