Army vs. Coastal Carolina Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-3-2022

This Saturday the (0-0) Army Black Knights and the (0-0) Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will play their first game of the 2022 NCAA College Football season. Kick-off will be at 7:00 PM EST inside Brooks Stadium (SC). Both of these teams are coming off impressive seasons in 2021, as each of them will be looking to jump out to a fast start in 2022.

The Black Knights ended their season in 2021 by defeating the Missouri Tigers in the Armed Forces Bowl. They also went 9-4 in the 2021 season, as they were involved in a ton of close games. They will be looking to be even better this season.

Coastal Carolina finished last season with an 11-2 record and their two losses came by five combined points. They were very tough to beat last season, but their team will look completely different in 2022.

The Army Black Knights have fallen in love with the run game, as they do the majority of their damage on the ground. Expect for Army to run the ball 90% of the time. Last season they had the second least productive pass offense in the country and they only averaged 94.8 passing yards per game, as their veteran quarterback loves to hand the ball off. According to Sports Reference, Army finished the 2021 season averaging 32.8 PPG and they rushed for 280.6 yards per game. The Black Knights also averaged 3.5 rushing touchdowns per game, as it wasn't like they were just running and punting the ball. They drove down the field and created offense against very tough opponents. Watch for Tyree Robinson and Tyson Riley, as these two will get the majority of the touches out of the backfield. Unfortunately, they did lose some of their offensive line, but they are returning their starting center and tackle. As the season goes on they will get better , but it will be interesting to see how their line holds up in week 1. The Black Knights will continue to run the ball and hold onto possession for as long as they can, while continuing to score.

On the defensive side of the ball the Black Knights were solid in 2021. They gave up 22.3 PPG and they were exceptional against the pass. They only allowed 211.2 passing yards per game, as their secondary made it difficult for their opponents. They will also be returning their entire secondary and Andre Carter, as he is one of the only NFL prospects on this team. Carter is an elite pass-rusher that will do everything he can to put pressure on the QB. This defense also benefits from their offense holding onto the ball for so long. While they run the ball, the defense rests and gets ready to attack. Luckily, they will also be bringing back their second leading tackler from 2021, as the Black Knights didn't lose many guys on the defensive side of the field. They did allowing 329.4 yards of total offense per game, as they will be looking to bring that average down in 2022.
