Arizona remains very much alive in what has turned out to be a five-team race for just two wildcard spots in the National League. The Phillies appear to have the top spot sewn up but the Cubs, Marlins, Reds, and Giants are all battling with the Diamondbacks for the last two spots. Arizona comes into this series after winning three of four in Chicago against the Cubs over the weekend. On Monday, the Diamondbacks continued their winning ways with a 4-3 win. On Tuesday night, hoping to go up 2-0 in the series, the Diamondbacks fell to the Mets to even the series. Starter Ryne Nelson lasted just 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits and six runs before being removed.

Arizona will hand the ball to Cy Young-candidate Zac Gallen in the third game of the series in New York. Gallen is 15-7 on the season in 30 starts including a team-leading 18 quality starts. Gallen has allowed 164 hits in 187.2 innings this season with an ERA of 3.31. He has a 9.4 K/9 rate and his WHIP is a solid 1.08. Gallen is 4-5 in 17 starts on the road this season with an ERA of 4.32. He has struck out 89 batters in 98 innings pitched. In his last five starts, Gallen is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.66. Gallen has allowed 30 hits in 32 innings pitched while striking out 30 batters in his last five games.
