Arizona Diamondbacks (69-80) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (103-45)

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up their five-game set at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday night with the first pitch at 10:10 PM ET. The Dodgers are listed as strong -201 home favorites, while the Diamondbacks are +184 moneyline underdogs with a total of 7.0 runs.

The Dodgers won Monday’s opener, while the teams split Tuesday’s doubleheader at Dodger Stadium. The fourth game of this series has been excluded from the analysis, and the Dodgers entered Wednesday’s battle searching for their 14th victory over the D-backs in 2022.

The Arizona Diamondbacks extended their losing streak to five games with a 6-5 defeat in the opener of a doubleheader against the Dodgers this past Tuesday. They blew a 5-1 lead, allowing the Dodgers to score five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The D-backs bounced back in the nightcap and outlasted the Blue Crew 5-2 behind Drey Jameson’s six strong innings, as the rookie right-hander yielded just a couple of runs on seven hits while punching out seven.

After splitting Tuesday’s twin bill, the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff sat at 4.31 ERA and 1.26 WHIP for the month of September. Their bullpen has been awful in the last three weeks, tallying a 5.07 ERA and 5.17 FIP across 65.2 innings of work.

Zac Gallen will get the starting call Thursday and face the Dodgers for the second time this season. The 27-year-old righty tossed six scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory to the Blue Crew on April 27 but didn’t factor into the decision. Gallen is 12-3 with a sturdy 2.52 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 167/43 K/BB ratio in 28 starts (164 innings pitched) in 2022. He just snapped his three-game winning streak, allowing a couple of runs in a 2-0 loss to the San Diego Padres this past Saturday.
