The Arizona Coyotes face the Toronto Maple Leafs with both teams on opposite ends of the standings to start the season. The Coyotes entered the season expected to finish near the bottom of the Central Division and already have a 0-2 record. The Maple Leafs meanwhile are entering the season with Stanley Cup aspirations and following an opening night loss, have won back-to-back games. The Coyotes are looking to win their first game of the season while the Maple Leafs are looking to continue to build up a strong record in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference.

The Coyotes are off to a rough start to the season with their offense struggling and scoring only five goals in their first two games. While Nick Ritchie and Clayton Keller have scored three goals to lead the forward unit and defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser have added one goal and four assists from the point, the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that Nick Schmaltz, Travis Boyd, and Christian Fischer can step up as they play a key role in the top two lines but have only added one assist to the offense.

While the offense has struggled, the defense has been awful, allowing 12 goals in only two games. Shayne Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser have led the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled and allowed opponents to generate shots on the net at will. Moreover, starting goaltender Karel Vejmelka has been awful in the net to start the season, allowing 11 goals on 95 shots.
