The Arizona Coyotes begin the season against the New Jersey Devils with both teams heading into the year with different outlooks. The Coyotes were one of the worst teams in the NHL last season but hope with a young crop of talent that they can contend. The Devils reached the Second Round last season and with elite players throughout their roster, they look to compete for the Cup. The Coyotes hope to start out strong in the Central Division while the Devils look to ju,p to the top of the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

The Coyotes showed flashes last season but in the middle of a rebuild, they struggled, scoring only 2.74 goals per game. Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz scored 59 goals and 85 assists but the rest of the offense struggled. The hope is that Logan Cooley can add a spark as he's one of the best prospects in the NHL and an elite young talent that the Coyotes will add to their forward unit.

The offense looks to improve but the defense was awful last season, allowing 3.60 goals per game, and it must improve if the Coyotes have any hopes of competing. Troy Stecher and J.J. Moser have led the top two lines with 4.4 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit struggled. The hope is that Sean Durzi and Mathew Dumba can add depth to the unit as they were signed in the offseason to strengthen the defense. Likewise, the hope is that goaltender Karel Vejmelka can step up in the net as he had a .899 save percentage and a 3.43 goals-against average on 1670 shots last year.
