The Arizona Coyotes are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Florida Panthers Wednesday night. Arizona earned a 5-2 home victory over Pittsburgh in their previous contest Monday night. Florida rolled to a 4-1 victory on the road in their previous game as they downed Nashville in the Music City Monday night. Arizona won their second straight game as they downed Pittsburgh at home in their previous game Monday night so they look to prevail on the road here. The Coyotes entered Thursday 23-19-3 on the season and stood fifth in the Central Division, 15 points behind Winnipeg for the top spot in the division. They were 11 points behind Dallas for the final guaranteed playoff spot. The team entered Tuesday two points behind Nashville for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. Arizona is 19th in the league in goals per game as they average three goals a night this season. The Coyotes are 13th in goals against as they allow an average of 2.93 goals per game on the year. Arizona is 10th in the league in power play success as they convert 23% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Coyotes are 20th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 79.6% of their shor thanded situations.

Against Pittsburgh, Arizona benefited from a fluke goal where the Penguins scored on themselves and took care of business on home ice. The Coyotes held a 10-9 edge in shots on goal in the opening period and skated off with a 1-0 edge on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. Jason Zucker opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the season at 2:23 off assists from Logan Cooley and Josh Brown. In the second period, the Coyotes were outshot 9-8 with both teams scoring twice, leaving them with a 3-2 advantage at the second intermission. After the Penguins tied the game, Juuso Valimaki scored his first goal of the season at 11:04 off assists from Clayton Keller and Matias Maccelli to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. The Penguins tied the game again before Alexander Kerfoot gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead with his seventh goal of the season at 18:01 off an assist from Zucker. In the third period, Arizona was outshot 9-8 but outscored Pittsburgh 2-0 to salt the game aw ay. Lawson Crouse extended to a 4-2 advantage with a power play goal, his 18th of the season, at 4:10 with an unassisted marker. Nick Bjugstad closed the scoring with his 10th goal of the season at 7:04 off assists from Liam O’Brien and Jack McBain. Connor Ingram made 25 saves for the Coyotes, who were outshot 27-26, in the victory. Karel Vejmelka may get the call between the pipes in this contest.
