The Arizona Coyotes face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams looking to improve from rough starts to the season. The Coyotes have a 4-6-1 record and have the second-worst record in the Central Division. The Sabres meanwhile have a 7-5 record but with back-to-back losses, have fallen to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Coyotes are hoping to improve in the Central Division while the Sabres are looking to rebound in the Atlantic Division and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Coyotes are off to a rough start to the season with their offense struggling, scoring only 2.82 goals per game. While Clayton Keller and Nick Ritchie have scored nine goals and 10 assists combined and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is adding four goals and six assists from the blue line, the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have three goals or more and only six skaters have four assists or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has been awful, allowing 4.09 goals per game including nine goals in the last two games. Juuso Valimaki and Josh Brown have combined for 1.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Kerel Vejmelka has struggled in the net with a .901 save percentage and a 3.72 goal s-against average on 294 shots.
