MLB’s latest collective bargaining agreement, signed in March 2022, allows teams to add advertising patches to their uniforms starting from the 2023 season. Teams are able to make their own sponsorship deals but are limited to one design per season across all uniforms.
The sponsorship patches on MLB uniforms are 4-by-4 inches and placed on either the left or right sleeve, determined by the dominant hand of each player. Right-handed pitchers and hitters wear the patch on their left sleeve, and left-handed pitchers and hitters wear the patch on their right sleeve.
The San Diego Padres were the first team to announce a partnership, having landed a deal with Motorola for 2023.
