Appalachian State vs. Texas State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-8-2022

The Appalachian State Mountaineers (3-2, 2-3 ATS, 3-2 O/U) battle the Texas State Bobcats (2-3, 2-3 ATS, 2-3 O/U) in a Sun Belt clash on Saturday evening. The Mountaineers clobbered the Citadel last week to improve to 3-2. The Bobcats were shelled by James Madison in their previous action. These foes last met in 2020 in a game Appalachian State won by a 38-17 score.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are having an encouraging season so far. They stunned a ranked Texas A&M squad with a 17-14 victory in week two. The Mountaineers are targeting their second conference win. They avoided a minor upset by defeating Troy 32-28 in their conference opener last month. Last week, the Mountaineers were labeled 39.5-point favorites in a dominating 49-0 win against The Citadel of the FCS. They have covered the points in only two of their five bouts.

Chase Brice is having a fantastic season. The senior QB has accrued eight TD passes in his last three games and recorded 265 passing yards last week. Brice now has 1279 passing yards accompanied by a 15:2 TD to INT ratio.

Camerun Peoples is a big threat. The junior RB has eclipsed 100 yards twice this season including 112 yards against Texas A&M. He has registered 366 rushing yards on the season. The Mountaineers have three receivers with at least 200 yards. Christian Horn brought in a whopping 132 receiving yards last week and leads the team with 344 receiving yards. The Appalachian State offense has scored at least 28 points in three consecutive games.

The Mountaineers' defense isn’t as effective as the offense. They had no problem against a weak opponent last week but were exploited by James Madison of the FCS. Of course, their best effort of the season was in the win against Texas A&M. The pass defense is strong, landing 41st while the rush defense is marked 68th. Appalachian State is posting 37.4 points, good for 28th in the FBS. They are conceding an average of 27.4 points, positioning them 81st.
