The (5-4) Appalachian State Mountaineers visit the (5-4) Marshall Thundering Herd this Saturday for a Sun Belt showdown. The Thundering Herd defeated Old Dominion 12-0 last week, while the Mountaineers lost 35-28 to Coastal Carolina. App State is favored by one point, and the game total is 47.5 points.
Appalachian State boasts a top-25 scoring offense, averaging 35.9 points per game. The Mountaineers average 195.6 rushing yards, 253.8 passing yards, and 449.3 total yards per game. Chase Brice, who started at Clemson and previously transferred to Duke, is in his second season as the starting quarterback (2,200 passing yards, 24 TDs, and 5 INTs). Camerun Peoples (572 rushing yards and 5 TDs), Nate Noel (336 rushing yards and 3 TDs), and Daetrich Harrington (276 rushing yards and 2 TDs) lead the rushing attack. Christan Horn (471 receiving yards and 4 TDs) and Dashaun Davis (389 receiving yards and 3 TDs) pace the Mountaineers' pass-catchers.
App State's defense is surrendering 25.3 points, 139.6 rush yards, 190.4 pass yards (25th nationally), and 330.0 total yards per contest (28th nationally). The Mountaineers have recorded 25 sacks, led by linebackers Nick Hampton (8.0 sacks) and Jalen McLeod (5.0 sacks). The App State defense has recorded just five interceptions, three of which were picked by Dexter Lawson Jr.
Last week, the Mountaineers dropped a close game to 8-1 Coast Carolina. Brice threw for 279 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for Appalachian State, which managed just 3.3 yards per carry on 27 rushing attempts. Coastal's offense had 476 total yards of offense, as QB Grayson McCall completed 18 of his 26 passing attempts for 253 yards and 2 TDs.
