The marquee matchup of the season thus far will take place this Saturday in Houston. The 8th ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the #1 ranked Houston Cougars in front of what should easily be a sold out crowd. Alabama comes into this matchup at 7-1 with their only blemish being an 82-67 loss to then #20 UConn in the Phil Knight Legacy tournament. They rebounded the following night by beating then #1 North Carolina, 103-101 in a four overtime thriller. Houston, meanwhile, has yet to lose a game this season and is 6-0 at home. The opening tap is scheduled for 3:00pm EST.

Alabama comes into this matchup with some quality wins under its belt already, including the four-overtime win over North Carolina. They have a chance to make it two-for-two in knocking off #1 teams in the country this season. On Friday night, the Tide improved to 7-1 with a 78-65 win over South Dakota State at home. Noah Clowney scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Tide, including hitting on his first four three-point field goal attempts. Mark Sears and Brandon Miller also scored in double figures for the Tide in the 13-point win. The team shot just under 40% from the floor in the game but won the rebounding battle 45-37.

“It was a good win. We honestly didn't play as well as we would like for the middle part of the game. I thought the last, maybe, eight minutes of the first half and first eight minutes of the second half weren't what we wanted, but I think we showed some character once we got down by o ne. We were able to grind some stops out and get the lead back and extend the lead. Obviously, starting the game making threes like we did helped.” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said after the win.

The Crimson Tide are scoring over 83 points per game this year while holding the opposition to just 68.5 points per game for a +15 point differential on the season. The Tide have done their most damage on the defensive end. They are holding the opposition to just 36% shooting overall and under 30% shooting from 3pt range. Alabama is hitting an average of five more three-point field goals per game than the opposition. They have been tenacious on the glass, averaging 50 rebounds per game and holding a nearly 14 point rebounding differential per game. Bama has struggled to protect the basketball, however, with nearly 16.5 turnovers per game.
