The Akron Zips will make the three-hour trip down to Athens to face the Ohio Bobcats in MAC play from the Convocation Center on ESPN3. Akron now leads the all-time series, 36-35, after defeating Ohio two weeks ago at home.
Akron fell to 17-7 after losing to Toledo at home. The Zips failed to respond to a strong first half from the Rockets, and they lost by nine points. Akron is scoring 72.1 points per game, while allowing 63.6 ppg, and shooting 43.1% from the field.
Akron must avoid falling for the top of the conference with this sneaky upcoming two-game road trip against Ohio and Emoni Bates-led Eastern Michigan. The Zips are 9-2 in MAC play, with a 4-3 road record. Senior guard Xavier Castaneda has been on a heater, and after scoring 23 points or more in six of the last eight games, he leads Akron in scoring (21.1). Castaneda only went 2-11 in the first meeting, so look for a bounce back effort from him here. Junior forward Enrique Freeman went for a season-high 32 points against Ohio a couple of weeks ago, and after posting four double-doubles in his last six games, he’s among the conference leaders in (11.1), while scoring 15.1 ppg.
