It’s an interconference matchup on the ice between a couple of teams with plenty of offensive weaponry to put on display in the Sunshine State. The Edmonton Oilers are on the road as they make the trip to face the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday. Edmonton was in action on Monday night as they visited the nation’s capital to face Washington. The Oilers were drubbed 6-2 at home by Dallas Saturday in their previous contest. Tampa Bay dropped Buffalo 5-3 at home Saturday night in their previous contest. In the last 10 meetings, the Lightning own a 7-2-1 advantage though it was the Oilers picking up a 4-1 victory at home in the most recent matchup on March 12, 2022.

Edmonton was on the road to face Washington Monday night so this marks their second game of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights. The Oilers entered Monday 7-5-0 and were fourth in the Pacific Division, eight points behind Vegas for the top spot. Edmonton comes into this one tied for 3rd in the league in goals per game as they average 3.83 goals per contest. The Oilers stand 24th in goals against as they allow 3.50 goals per night. Edmonton stands 2nd in power play success as they cash in 31.9% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Oilers are 28th in penalty killing as they successfully get through 72.5% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Dallas, Edmonton was lax in their own zone and Dallas took care of business as they took the Oilers to the woodshed. The shots were even at 11 in the opening period and t hey trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play on the scoreboard. In the second period, Edmonton was outshot by an 18-8 margin and outscored 3-1 in the stanza to trail 4-1 after two periods of play. After falling behind 2-0 on the scoreboard, Leon Draisaitl halved the deficit and got the Oilers on the board with a power play goal, his seventh of the season, at 10:19 with assists going to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid. The Oilers gave up a pair of goals later in the period to trail 4-1. In the third period, Edmonton held an 11-7 edge in shots on goal but they were outscored 2-1 to wind up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Darnell Nurse got the Oilers within 4-2 with his third of the season at 3:41 off assists from Jesse Puljujarvi and Evander Kane. That was as close as Edmonton would get as they gave up a goal 20 seconds later en route to the loss. Jack Campbell made 30 saves for the Oilers, who were outshot 36-30, in the loss. He’s expected to get the start in goal in th is contest.
