The St. Louis Blues face the Boston Bruins with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Blues are 3-6 and with six losses in a row have fallen to last place in the Central Division. The Bruins have a 10-2 record and are in first place in the Atlantic Division. While the Blues are hoping to climb out of last place in the Central Division, the Bruins are looking to continue their strong start and remain near the top of the Eastern Conference, making the upcoming game a crucial one for both teams.

The Blues are having a terrible start to the season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.33 goals per game. Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn, and Robert Thomas have scored eight goals and 17 assists while Justin Faulk is adding three goals and seven assists from the blue line but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have scored two goals or more and only four skaters have added four assists or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Blues down, allowing 3.89 goals per game including 23 goals in the last four games. Niko Mikkola and Justin Faulk have combined for 1.0 defensive point shares and 31 blocked shots to lead the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Jordan Binnington has struggled in the net with a .879 save percentage and a 3.40 goals-against average on 182 shots.
