The New Orleans Pelicans head into Atlanta on Saturday night to play their sixth road game out of their first eight games overall. New Orleans will be playing the second of a back-to-back in this spot after having a 3-day layoff following a 120-117 loss in LA against the Lakers on Wednesday night. After leading by four points after the first period, the Pelicans were outscored 33-17 in the second quarter and played catch-up for much of the night after that. Zion Williamson, recently returned from a hip injury, poured in 27 points and was supported by C.J. McCollum's 22 points, nine rebounds and 8 assists in the loss. Williamson kept the Pelicans alive through the fourth quarter with 14 points in that stretch but the Lakers tied it with a last-second three point shot and were then outscored 9-6 in the overtime session.

“We did everything we needed to do to put ourselves in a position to win that game, and we let it slip away,” Pels coach Willie Green said. “This is definitely a growth moment for some of our young guys. We didn’t deserve to win that game, so credit to the Lakers. … We can’t wait until the second half to decide we want to play, and that’s what we did.”

On Friday night, behind 26 points from Brandon Ingram and 41% shooting from beyond the arc, the Pelicans defeated the Golden State Warriors 114-105.

New Orleans is tied for second in the league in points per game this season and are shooting nearly 49%, and all this despite missing F Brandon Ingram for four games and Williamson for an additional two games. McCollum continues to be a steady hand for the young Pelicans as he is first on the team in minutes played, assists and assist to turnover ratio. McCollum has thrived with the Pelicans playing a more traditional point guard role after being more of a shooting guard with the Blazers for much of his career.

Key Injuries: Brandon Ingram (concussion) should be a go again on Saturday following a four-game absence due to a concussion.
