Houston vs. SMU Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-5-2022

Houston will try to extend its three-game winning streak when it travels to SMU on Saturday night. The Cougars have won their last two games by double digits, including a 42-27 win against South Florida. SMU has won two of its last three games and is coming off a 45-34 loss at Tulsa.

Houston got off to a slow start this season, losing three of its first five games. The Cougars had to face a tough schedule, though, as their losses came against Texas Tech, Kansas and Tulane. They were able to right the ship during the month of October, beating Memphis, Navy and South Florida in consecutive games. Houston was an underdog against Memphis and easily covered the 3-point spread in its win over Navy. The Cougars came up short of covering the 17.5-point spread against South Florida last week, but quarterback Clayton Tune threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns, setting a single-game career-high 83.7% completion percentage.

Tune has been on fire during the three-game hot streak, racking up 88 completions for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has thrown four-plus touchdowns five times during his career, including each of the last two games. Houston is tied with UCF and Cincinnati for second place in the AAC standings, making every game monumental right now. Tune has completed 67.7% of his passes for 2,208 yards, 21 touchdowns and four interceptions. His top target has been wide receiver Nathaniel Dell, who has caught 60 passes for 739 yards and 10 touchdowns. Running back Brandon Campbell has 359 rushing yards to lead a ground game that is averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
