It’s a battle of programs from the East Division of the Sun Belt on the gridiron in the state of Virginia. The Marshall Thundering Herd are on the road as they make the trip to face the Old Dominion Monarchs Saturday afternoon. Marshall comes in off a 24-13 home loss to Coastal Carolina in their previous contest last Saturday in a game where they were favored by 2.5 points. Old Dominion was defeated 31-17 on the road by Georgia State in their previous contest last Saturday, failing to cover as a 3.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the schools, Marshall owns a 6-1 advantage and has won the last four meetings. That includes a 20-13 home win in the most recent matchup on October 9, 2021.

Marshall couldn’t build off their upset win over James Madison as they were dumped at home by Coastal Carolina for their fourth loss in six games. The Thundering Herd fell to 4-4 overall on the season and sit in the basement of the Sun Belt East Division with a 1-3 conference mark. Against Coastal Carolina, Marshall found themselves in a 21-0 hole after the opening quarter and couldn’t make up the deficit. The Thundering Herd climbed within 21-13 after three quarters but went scoreless in the final stanza to take the loss. Marshall held a 407-271 edge in total offense but lost time of possession by a 35:00 to 25:00 margin. The Thundering Herd also committed the only two turnovers in the game while each team recorded 20 first downs.

The Thundering Herd are 104th among the 131 FBS teams to take the field this season in passing offense as they average 201.5 yards per game throu gh the air. Marshall is 36th in rushing offense as they average 189.4 yards per contest on the ground. The Thundering Herd is 91st in the FBS in scoring offense as they average 24.1 points per game but they have sparkled defensively.
