Memphis Grizzlies vs. Portland Trail Blazers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-2-2022

Memphis Grizzlies (4-3) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (5-1)

The NBA betting action goes on with an 11-game Wednesday card, bringing plenty of interesting markets to choose from, so we are taking a closer look at the Western Conference showdown from Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

The Memphis Grizzlies face off against the Portland Trail Blazers for the first time this season, and both teams have a lot of injury problems. Memphis cannot count on Jaren Jackson Jr., Brandon Clarke, and Ziaire Williams, while Desmond Bane, Steven Adams, and Jake LaRavia are all questionable to play. On the other side, the Trail Blazers are missing Damian Lillard and Gary Payton II, while Josh Hart is listed as questionable.

The Memphis Grizzlies (4-3; 2-4-1 ATS) are looking to snap their two-game skid. They wrapped up October with a couple of defeats at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, losing to the Utah Jazz 124-123 as 3-point favorites and 121-105 as 2.5-point favorites. After missing the first duel against the Jazz due to an illness, Ja Morant dropped 37 points on Utah last Monday while shooting 12-for-18 from the field, but it wasn’t enough.

“Everything was on us,” Morant said after a heavy loss at Utah. “We weren’t communicating, rotating, and we were just giving them easy looks.”

The Grizzlies went just 6-for-26 from deep last Monday. They outscored Utah 58-40 in the paint, but the Grizzlies allowed the Jazz to make 19 of their 47 attempts from beyond the 3-point line. Furthermore, Memphis only hit 23 of its 42 free-throw attempts which was a complete disaster.

The Grizzlies are dead last in the league in free throw percentage (68.1%). They still own the sixth-highest offensive rating, tallying 115.9 points per 100 possessions. Memphis desperately needs to improve on the defensive side of things after surrendering 119.1 points per 100 possessions through their first seven showings in 2022-23 (28th in the NBA).

The Grizzlies’ D ranks 24th in the NBA in field goal percentage (48.1%) and 23rd in 3-point percentage (37.5%). Memphis allows the fifth-most attempts from deep (37.7) and triples (14.2) per 100 possessions.
