Even though the Houston Astros were heavily favored to win the World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies earned a surprising win in Game 1. A J.T. Realmuto home run in the 10th inning gave the Phillies the win, in a game that saw ace starters Justin Verlander and Aaron Nola struggle, both surrendering five earned runs in five innings or less.
The Astros bounced back in Game 2, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning before cruising to a 5-2 victory. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot in the game.
