A pair of Atlantic Division foes from opposite ends of the continent take the ice in the Sunshine State looking to pick up two points. The Ottawa Senators are on the road as they make the trip down the Atlantic seaboard to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night. Ottawa comes in off a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Panthers on Saturday night in their most recent contest. Tampa Bay edged San Jose 4-3 on the road Saturday afternoon to finish up a three-game California swing. The Lightning have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the teams, including the last five. In the most recent meeting, Tampa Bay picked up a 5-2 home victory on March 1, 2022.

Ottawa hung in against Florida but gave up the winning goal late in the third period to wind up on the wrong end of the scoreboard Saturday. The Senators are 4-4-0 on the season and sit in the basement of the Atlantic Division, eight points behind the Bruins for the top spot in the division race. Ottawa is 3rd in offense as they average 3.75 goals per game on the season. The Senators are 24th in goals against as they allow an average of 3.38 goals per contest this year. Ottawa is 9th with the man advantage as they have cashed in 25.9% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Senators are 24th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 75.9% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Florida, Ottawa showed grit after being hammered for two-plus periods but couldn’t close things out, sending them to a defeat. The Senato rs were outshot by a staggering 26-4 margin in the opening period and were fortunate to be down just 2-0 after 20 minutes of action. In the second period, Ottawa was outshot 21-13 but outscored Florida 2-1 to cut the gap to 3-2 after two periods of play. Shane Pinto got the Senators on the board with his sixth of the season, on the power play, 37 seconds into the period to make it 2-1. Claude Giroux and Jake Sanderson drew the assists on that marker. Brady Tkachuk knotted the score with his sixth of the year at 3:23 with assists going to Drake Batherson and Nick Holden. The Senators gave up the go-ahead goal in the final minute of the stanza. In the third period, Ottawa was outshot 11-9 and outscored 2-1 to wind up with the loss. Holden tied the game at 11:56 with his first goal of the season on an assist from Tyler Motte though that was the high-water mark for Ottawa. Florida scored the go-ahead goal with 3:32 to play and added an empty net marker to close things out. Anton Forsber g made 53 saves for the Senators, who were outshot 58-26, in the loss.
