Old Dominion (ODU) vs. Georgia State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-29-2022

The Old Dominion Monarchs (3-4, 3-4 ATS, 3-4 O/U) battle the Georgia State Panthers (2-5, 2-5 ATS, 3-4 O/U) in a Sun Belt clash on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs lost a home bout against  Georgia Southern last week. The Panthers were clobbered by Appalachian State in their previous bout.

The Old Dominion Monarchs are looking to rebound from their first conference defeat of the season. They won the opening two Sun Belt clashes against Arkansas State followed by a dominating 49-21 road win against Coastal Carolina. Last week, the Monarchs were tabbed 1.5-point favorites in a 28-23 road loss to Georgia Southern. ODU’s best win occurred in the season opener in a 20-17 win against Virginia Tech. They have covered the points in one of their three conference bouts.

Hayden Wolff is playing reasonably well. The sophomore QB accumulated a season-best 328 passing yards last week and has only tossed one interception in his last five games. Wolff has collected 1763 passing yards along with a 12:2 TD to INT ratio on the season.

Blake Watson is in a groove. The junior RB has surpassed 100 rushing yards in back-to-back games and now has 622 rushing yards on an average of 6.5 yards per rush. The receiving core is decent but relies on star Ali Jennings III. The junior WR is having an outstanding season, bringing in 100 yards in three out of his last four games, and now has a remarkable 905 receiving yards. The ODU offense struggled against challenging foes earlier in the year but has now scored at least 24 points in four consecutive games.

The Monarchs' defense is below average. They were able to contain Georgia Southern last week but still allowed 415 total yards which is lower than their average yards allowed per game of 452. The pass defense is marked 105th while the rush defense is 104th. Old Dominion is scoring an average of 25.7 points, tabbing them 87th. They are allowing an average of 26.4 points, positioning them 69th in the FBS.
