No better an authority than Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich announced for all to hear that it would be a challenging season for his young Spurs team this season. Popovich understands better than most, especially after dealing his team's best player, Dajaunte Murray, in the offseason as he continues to tinker with his roster for future success. Someone forgot to tell this young Spurs team that they can't win, however, as they have jumped out to a 3-1 record including a 3-0 record on the road. On Monday night, the Spurs jumped out to a 20-point lead over host Minnesota and cruised to a 115-106 win. Devin Vassell scored 23 points and Jakob Poeltl chipped in with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. The Spurs had 39 points in the first quarter and shot 63% to put the Timberwolves in a hole that they could never get out of.

“You got to be happy for (the Spurs players),” San Ant onio coach, Gregg Popovich said. “They play hard. They are learning how to play the game.”

Small forward Keldon Johnson leads San Antonio with 20.5 points per game while adding 6.3 rebounds and and 3.5 assists. Popovich's fingerprints are all over this team as the Spurs move the ball very well to get the best shot, shooting 47% thus far on the season. They are also amongst the best teams through the first week in assist/turnover ratio, ranking 4th in the NBA thus far. This number is impressive considering the Spurs dealt away their point guard in Dejounte Murray in the offseason. New starter and former Duke guard Tre Jones has the offense in good hands. Last season, Jones had an assist to turnover ratio of 5.1. The Spurs 3pt defense has been solid as well, ranking 10th in the league during this brief sample. Last season, overall, the Spurs allowed the opposition to shoot 36% from 3pt range and have held teams to just 33% to start this season.

Key Injuries:  The Spurs come into the rematch healthy.
