Carolina Hurricanes (3-1-0) vs. Calgary Flames (3-1-0)

The 2022-23 NHL season goes on Saturday, October 22, with the highly-anticipated showdown from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, where the Carolina Hurricanes face off against the Calgary Flames. At the moment, the Hurricanes are the third-strongest fave to win the 2023 Stanley Cup with their odds at +1000, while the Flames are right behind at +1100 odds.

Calgary opens as a -126 home fave to win Saturday’s battle. Carolina is a +114 moneyline underdog, and the totals are listed at 6.0 goals.

The Carolina Hurricanes put an end to their three-game winning streak last Thursday. Playing as slight -115 road dogs, the Hurricanes suffered a 6-4 defeat at the Edmonton Oilers, allowing more than one goal for the first time this season. The Canes outshot the Oilers 40-33, and Andrei Svechnikov scored a hat trick, but it wasn’t enough.

“Today was a tough game,” Carolina winger Martin Necas said. “We didn’t play badly. We just gave up some easy goals, which against teams like that can cost you. “We scored four goals and with four goals, we should win every night. It was tough night.”

Frederik Andersen has been outstanding in his first two outings in 2022-23. The 33-year-old goaltender yielded five goals on just 32 shots against Edmonton, falling to 2-1-0 with a 2.35 GAA and .920 save percentage on the season. Antti Raanta is waiting for his chance after posting 18 stops in a 2-1 road win against the San Jose Sharks.

The Hurricanes have allowed just 107 shots over their first four contests in 2022-23. They’ve also yielded three power-play goals on 17 attempts while converting four of their 15 power-play opportunities. Andrei Svechnikov leads the way for Carolina with six goals and a couple of dishes, while Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho have accounted for seven points apiece.
