Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Commanders Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-23-2022

The Washington Commanders play host to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon in a crucial NFC showdown from FedExField. Both teams come into this one having faced some struggles of late, while the Packers have dropped two in a row. For the Commanders, a win last week helped to right the ship, though considering it was against the Bears, they still have quite a bit to prove. When these two met last season, it was smooth sailing for the Packers, as they hope to replicate that 24-10 win as they hit the road in this one.

The Packers were one of the best teams in football this season but 2022 has been far less kind to the pre-season NFC North favorites this go-around. Coming in at 3-3, the Packers have lost two games in a row after a three-game winning streak and are hoping they can right the ship, despite having to hit the road. Two weeks ago saw them get upset in England, while a home game loss to the Jets last time out was certainly unexpected. The Packers have talent but without much consistency on either side of the ball right now, things haven't been coming easy. It's always a tall task to go on the road in this league, though getting to play Washington should give them some hope in this one.

When it comes to injuries, the worries begin on the offensive side. Randall Cobb (ankle) has been ruled out into November, joining Sammy Watkins (hamstring) as inactive, while Christian Watson (hamstring) is questionable, serving to only further deplete the wide receiver room. One piece of good news is that Rashan Gary (toe) at least appears probable for Sunday's game, giving them a much-needed jolt on the defense.

On the offensive side, any team with Aaron Rodgers at the helm will be dangerous from time to time, though those moments have been less frequent this season. The Packers rank only 15th in the league in total offense while sitting 24th in scoring offense. As mentioned earlier, the revolving door at wide receiver hasn't helped, but they'll need to focus on the ground game in this one. Washington has struggled to stop opponents from running at will, which will be an area that Green Bay can exploit in this one.

For all the struggle on the offensive side, the defense has remained strong. They rank fifth in the league in total defense and first against the pass, though ranking 27th against the run is a serious concern. Luckily, Washington doesn't have a great ground game itself, or else the Packers might be feeling even more uneasy at their prospects of slowing down the opposition on Sunday.
