Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Chargers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-23-2022

It’s an interconference clash as a pair of former AFC West opponents take the field in the City of Angels. The Seattle Seahawks are on the road as they make the trip down the west coast to face the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday afternoon. Seattle comes in off a 19-9 home victory over Arizona as a 2.5-point underdog in their previous contest last Sunday. Los Angeles had a tougher than expected time but managed to earn a 19-16 overtime victory over Denver at home on Monday Night Football, though they failed to cover as four-point favorites. In the all-time series between the teams, the Seahawks hold a slim 26-25 advantage though the Chargers have taken two straight and three of four. That includes a 25-17 road victory in the most recent matchup on November 4, 2018.

Seattle didn’t do a ton offensively in their home game against Arizona but their defense stepped up to help deliver a victory. The Seahawks enter week 7 3-3 on the season and they are tied with the Rams and 49ers for the top spot in the NFC West. Seattle trailed 3-0 early but scored the next 12 points to take a 12-3 advantage in the third quarter. After the Cardinals cut the lead to three, the Seahawks put the game away with a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended in a Kenneth Walker III 11-yard touchdown run. Seattle’s defense did the rest and carried them to a victory. The Seahawks were outgained 315-296 in total offense and lost time of possession by a 30:44 to 29:16 margin. Seattle won the first down battle 19-15 and the turnover battle two to one though they did give up a scoop-six on the lone giveaway in the contest.

This season, the Seahawks are 14th in the l eague in passing offense as they average 231.7 yards per game through the air and 11th in rushing offense with 124.3 yards per contest on the ground. Seattle is 8th in the league in scoring offense with an average of 24.3 points per game and a dismal 30th in scoring defense by allowing 27.2 points per contest. Geno Smith has completed 138 of 188 passes for 1,502 yards with nine touchdowns against two interceptions. He has been sacked 14 times while ranking third on the team with 125 rushing yards and a score. Rashaad Penny leads the team with 57 carries for 346 yards and two scores though he was lost for the season after ankle surgery and a fractured fibula suffered against the Saints October 9. That means rookie Kenneth Walker III (44 carries, 243 yards, two TD) takes over lead back duties while DeeJay Dallas (six carries, 26 yards) and Travis Homer (four carries, 18 yards) are next in line on the depth chart. In the passing game, Tyler Lockett lead s the team with 34 catches for 423 yards plus two scores on the year. DK Metcalf (30 receptions, 406 yards, two TD) along with tight ends Noah Fant (19 grabs, 150 yards, TD), Will Dissly (15 receptions, 149 yards, three TD) and Colby Parkinson (eight catches, 126 yards, TD) are all over the century mark for receiving yards. Jason Myers has hit 14 of 15 extra point attempts and 12 of 13 field goal attempts with a long of 56 this season.

The Seahawks’ first injury report of the week was rather lengthy. Wide receivers Tyler Lockett (hamstring) and Penny Hart (hamstring), linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (rest), cornerbacks Artie Burns (groin) along with Isaiah Dunn (hamstring) plus guard Gabe Jackson (knee/hip) all didn’t practice Wednesday. Defensive end Quinton Jefferson (foot), safety Ryan Neal (ankle), defensive tackle Al Woods (knee) and tight end Noah Fant (illness) were limited in practice. Keep an eye on their statuses as the week rolls on toward ki ckoff.
