The New York Yankees played out a familiar narrative in game one of the ALCS against Houston. The Yankees lineup only produced five hits and both runs came courtesy of the long ball, both solo shots, and they fell 4-2 to the Houston Astros. The Yankees got the fourth home run of the postseason from Harrison Bader and then an 8th inning solo blast from Anthony Rizzo but it wasn't enough. The Yankees went 0-for-4 with RISP as Matt Carpenter struck out twice with two runners on each time. In the game, the Yankees struck out 17 times. Five Yankees pitchers combined to throw eight innings and gave up seven hits but three of those hits left the yard.

The Yankees made some changes to their ALCS roster, adding starter Frankie Montas and reliever Greg Weissert along with position players Oswald Peraza and Tim Locastro. Notable players left off the ALCS roster included Aaron Hicks (knee) along with Andrew Benintendi (wrist) and DJ LeMahieu (toe). More than ever, the Yankees are going to have to find some small-ball runs in a series that they will not be able to power past their opponent like they were able to do with the Guardians. The Astros proved that in game one by out-homering the Yankees 3-2. On the mound in game two will be righty Luis Severino. Severino pitched 5.2 innings against Cleveland on Saturday and allowed eight hits and three runs. He faced the Astros twice this season and went 0-2 with a 3.75 ERA. He struck out 11 batters in 12 innings and allowed one home run.
