Buffalo Sabres vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-20-2022

Buffalo Sabres (2-1-0) vs. Calgary Flames (3-0-0)

The 2022-23 NHL season goes on Thursday, October 20, with the interconference battle from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, where the unbeaten Calgary Flames take on the Buffalo Sabres. After splitting their last season’s two-game set, the Sabres aim for their second straight road victory over the Flames.

Buffalo heads to Calgary as a huge +220 moneyline underdog. The Flames sit at -245 moneyline odds, and the totals are listed at 6.5 goals.

The Buffalo Sabres started their 2022-23 campaign with a 4-1 home victory against the Ottawa Senators. After a 4-3 home loss to the Florida Panthers, the Sabres hit the road and stunned the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 as +195 underdogs this past Tuesday. Eric Comrie posted 46 saves in a tough matchup against the Oilers’ dynamic offense, while four guys found the back of the net including defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, who’s already accounted for three goals, one dish, and a plus-five net rating this season.

“It was great, but it’s just two points and it doesn’t matter who we’re playing against and what’s going on whether my family is in town,” Comrie said. “I’m just going out there with this group of guys and givi ng it all I have for this group, no matter where it is or when it is. Our D core did an awesome job of making sure everything was to the outside, everything was taken care of and props to them, they were awesome out there all night tonight.”

The Sabres haven’t been in the postseason since 2011. They haven’t won more than 33 games in six years. Don Granato will try to change that in his second full season at the Sabres’ helm, but Buffalo arguably lacks talent everywhere. Keep your eyes on wingers Victor Olofsson and Alex Tuch who have combined for four goals and an assist over Buffalo’s first three outings in 2022-23.
