The Ottawa Senators face the Toronto Maple Leafs with both teams looking to start the new season strongly. The Senators made a handful of big moves in the offseason but are looking to rebound from a rough opening night loss. The Maple Leafs meanwhile enter the season as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference but have split their first two games thus far. Both teams are looking to start the season in the Atlantic Division with winning records and prove why they are playoff-caliber teams within the first week of the season.

The Senators entered the season with high hopes but lost their opening night game with their offense in particular looking hapless, scoring only one goal in the effort. While Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson scored a goal and an assist, the rest of the offense struggled. The hope is that Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux, two prize additions in the offseason, can step up and add a spark to the top two lines in the upcoming games.

While the offense let the Senators down, the defense also struggled, allowing four goals with two of them coming in the final minute of play. Artem Zub and Thomas Chabot looked great as the top pairing but the rest of the defensive unit struggled and allowed the opposition to find open shots on the net at will. The bright spot was the play of starting goaltender Anton Forsberg who saved 32 of the 34 shots in the losing effort and looks to build off the big game and establis h himself as the unquestioned starter this season.
