NC State vs. Syracuse Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-15-2022

This Saturday, the (5-1) #15 NC State Wolfpack and the (5-0) #18 Syracuse Orange will matchup in the seventh week of the 2022 college football season. Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM EST inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Both of these teams have started the year very fast, as they have only combined for one loss. They have leaned on their defenses all season, and that trend will continue in this game.

The NC State Wolfpack is coming into this one after taking down Florida State, 19-17. They had a great fourth-quarter comeback, as they scored 16 unanswered points in the second half. They will need their offense to stay efficient if they want to get the job done on the road in this one.

The Syracuse Orange are entering this one after defeating Wagner, 59-0. This was never a challenge for the Orange, as they dominated on the offensive and defensive side of the field. They now have a tougher matchup, as they will have to show up at home in this one.

The NC State Wolfpack has started this season strong, as their only loss has come from the Clemson Tigers. They took down Florida State last week, and they will be looking to carry that momentum over into this game. On offense, the Wolfpack is scoring 30.5 points per game and averaging 371.7 total yards. This is the 67th most points scored per game and the 91st most yards. They have struggled to move the ball against stronger teams this season, as they have been average on the ground and through the air. NC State is currently averaging 230.7 passing yards per game, which is the 80th most in the country. I expect Devin Leary to start this game at quarterback, as he has already thrown 11 touchdowns this season and only four interceptions. He will look to get the ball to Thayer Thomas, as he is leading the team with 301 yards and two touchdowns. NC State is also averaging 141 rushing yards per game, which is the 86th most in the nation. Watch for Demie Sumo-Karngbaye out of the backfield, as he leads the team with 299 yards and three touchdowns. He is also averaging 5.9 yards per carry.

On defense, the Wolfpack is allowing 15.7 points per game, which is the 16th least in the country. They have relied on their defense all season, as they are great against the pass. They are also allowing 297.8 total yards per game, which is the 17th least in the nation. It has not been easy to move the ball consistently against them and they shut out the Seminoles in the second half of last week's game. Their secondary has continued to stay solid, as well. They are only allowing 184.8 passing yards per game, which is the 21st least. Moving the ball through the air against them this season has been a serious challenge. Running the ball against the Wolfpack hasn't been easy, either. They are surrendering the 28th least amount of rushing yards per game, as their front seven has continued to rally toward the bal l. Watch for Drake Thomas, as he leads the team with 46 tackles this season and he has recorded three pass deflections. He has been flying around the field in the first six weeks.
