Miami – FL vs. Virginia Tech Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-15-2022

We have an Atlantic Coast Conference clash on Saturday as the Virginia Tech Hokies host the Miami Hurricanes. The Hokies come in with a record of 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC while Miami is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Miami has won 7 of the last 10 meetings between these two teams, including a 38-26 win last season as a 7 point favorite. Miami is a 7 point favorite in this one. The total is set at 47.

After two easy wins to start the season, the Miami Hurricanes have now dropped three straight games. They lost a competitive 17-9 at Texas A&M followed by a horrible 45-31 loss at home against Middle Tennessee State as a 25.5 point favorite. Then last week they hosted North Carolina as a four point favorite, but they suffered another bad loss, falling to the Tarheels 27-24. Miami rolled up a ridiculous 538 total yards in the game, and 30 first downs, and they didn't even lose the turnover battle. So what happened? Just an ability to convert in the red zone while UNC was 9 for 15 in converting third and fourth downs.

A bright spot for Miami has been quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who outdueled North Carolina's gunslinger Drake Maye. Van Dyke threw for a ridiculous 496 yards on 42 completions with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. The problem was, he was the entire offense as Miami rushed for only 42 yards. Will Mallory caught 8 passes for 115 yards while Frank Ladson caught 8 passes for 67 yards. A total of 9 Hurricanes caught 2 or more passes. The Canes have not been this lopsided all season, as they average 317 passing yards per game, which ranks 14th, and 152 rushing yards, which ranks 70th in the nation. They give up 21.8 points per game, which ranks 43rd in the nation.
