We’re almost a third of the way through the 2022-23 English Premier League season, as plenty of storylines already abound. As things heat up across England, let’s take a closer look at a game I’m keyed in on as the calendar turns to October: Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa.

After earning promotion following a strong 2021-22 campaign in the second league, Nottingham now appears over their head eight games into their EPL season. 1-1-6 to this point, Nottingham has a league-worst -16 goal differential and continuously has looked out of their league. Now having lost five straight, Leicester City was the most recent team to dismantle them, winning 4-0 at home on October 3rd.
On the other side of this matchup, Aston Villa hasn’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard, but they have picked up a point in each of their past three games. The last time we saw them on the pitch was a hard-fought 0-0 draw vs. Leeds in a game they had many chances to win but ultimately fell short in.
