Connecticut (UCONN) vs. Florida International (FIU) Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-8-2022

The independent UConn Huskies hope to build on their shocking win over Fresno State last weekend as they head to Florida to face Florida International of Conference USA. The Huskies are 2-4 on the season while the FIU Panthers are 2-2. These two teams have not met in recent years. The Huskies come into this game as a four point favorite. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. ET at Ricardo Silva Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Last year, UConn was literally one of the worst teams in Division I college football . That's not hyperbole, they were ranked among the worst in the nation. Things weren't looking much better this season as they are ranked 126th in the nation out of 131 FBS teams. But somehow, they beat Fresno State last Saturday at home by the score of 19-14. The Huskies were 23 point underdogs to the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 53 in the nation. The last time UConn played Fresno State, in 2021, they lost 45-0. So now they have a chance to get another win as they face a pretty bad FIU team. The Huskies head to Miami to face the Panthers, who are 2-2, but are ranked 130th in the nation — out of 131 FBS teams. Only UMass is ranked lower.

So how did UConn spring the upset? They ran for 183 yards, held Fresno State to 187 total yards, and turned the Bulldogs over 3 times, including two interceptions. This is a Fresno State team that averages 412 total yards per game, 66th in the nation. And they average 288 yards passing, which is 29th best in the nation. UConn held them to 157 yards passing. Devontae Houston did most of the damage for UConn, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on 4.6 yards per carry. Quarterback Zion Turner was an efficient 8 of 15 for 130 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 23 yards, while receiver Kevens Clericus caught 2 passes for 79 yards. The Huskies come into this game with FIU pretty healthy.
