It’s a crossover matchup of the Sun Belt as an unbeaten team makes the trip to the bayou hoping to avoid an upset. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are on the road as they travel to face the UL Monroe Warhawks Saturday night. Coastal Carolina slipped past Georgia Southern, prevailing 34-30, at home last Saturday in their most recent game. UL Monroe was defeated 45-28 by Arkansas State on the road last Saturday in their previous contest. In the all-time series between the schools at the FBS level, the Warhawks own a 3-1 advantage but it was the Chanticleers steamrolling to a 59-6 triumph at home in the most recent matchup on October 2, 2021.

Coastal Carolina sputtered offensively for three quarters before getting things going in the fourth to earn the victory. The Chanticleers ran their record to 5-0 overall and they stand 2-0, atop the East Division of the Sun Belt. Against Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina led 7-0 after the opening quarter, stood even at seven at the half and trailed 17-14 after three quarters. The Chanticleers scored three fourth quarter touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 38 seconds to play, for the final lead change: there were three lead changes in the final 5:55 of the contest. Coastal Carolina held a 485-462 edge in total offense and held a 30:58 to 29:02 edge in time of possession. The Chanticleers were edged 24-23 in first downs and both teams turned the ball over once.

The Chanticleers are tied for 37th in the FBS in passing offense as they average 273.6 yards per game on the year. C oastal Carolina is tied for 35th in rushing offense as they pick up an average of 190.4 yards per contest. The Chanticleers stand 33rd among the 131 FBS teams that have played this season in scoring offense as they put up an average of 36.4 points per game. Coastal Carolina is average defensively as they are 77th in scoring defense by limiting opposing teams to 27 points a contest. Quarterback Grayson McCall has been terrific this season as the architect of the offense. He has completed 92 of 132 passes for 1,336 yards with 14 touchdown passes against one interception while ranking third on the team with 125 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Jarrett Guest (one of two, 32 yards, INT, 33 rushing yards, TD) and Bryce Carpenter (one of three, zero yards, 12 rushing yards) have seen limited action. CJ Beasley leads the team on the ground with 72 carries for 469 yards and two scores. Reese White (36 carries, 245 yards, TD) is next in line in the run game . In the passing game, Sam Pinckney leads the team with 28 receptions for 377 yards plus a score this season. Jared Brown (19 catches, 392 yards, three TD), Tyson Mobley (15 grabs, 171 yards, three TD) and Beasley (nine receptions, 129 yards, TD) are each over the century mark in receiving yards. Kade Hensley has hit all 23 extra point attempts and five of seven field goal tries with a long of 48 this season.
