Most of the major individual statistical winners around Major League Baseball'have been decided. For example, Atlanta's Kyle Wright will lead the majors in wins with 21, the Yankees' Aaron Judge will lead in homers (currently an American League-record 62) and Miami's Jon Berti will be tops in steals (41). The two main categories up for grabs on the final day of the season Wednesday are the overall batting champion and RBI leader.
The batting king will be the Mets' Jeff McNeil (.326) or Dodgers' Fred die Freeman (.322), although it's possible neither plays since both are headed to the playoffs and their managers may not want to risk injury. Neither player has led MLB in hitting previously – Freeman is likely to be tops in overall hits. He was priced +1400 on that prop entering the season.
No Mets player has won the overall batting title. Jose Reyes was the only New York player to lead the National League when he hit .337 in 2011, but Detroit's Miguel Cabrera led the majors at .344.
The Mets also could have the overall RBI leader. Pete Alonso and Judge are tied with 131. The lone Mets player to lead the National League in RBI was Howard Johnson with 117 in 1991, but the overall leader was Detroit's Cecil Fielder with 133. Alonso's total is a franchise record, breaking the previous mark set of 124 set by Mike Piazza in 1999 and David Wright in 2008.
