The Winnipeg Jets finished sixth in the Central Division and failed to qualify for the playoffs a season ago. The Jets hired head coach Rick Bowness, who has spent the previous three seasons with Dallas, plans to change the culture this year. On Saturday, Winnipeg took visiting Edmonton to a shootout before falling by a 3-2 final score. C Cole Perfetti scored twice on the power play for the Jets, who outshot the Oilers by a 35-27 margin.
