The FIU Panthers and New Mexico State Aggies face off on Saturday in a Week 5 college football showdown at Aggie Memorial Stadium. This is the first meeting between the two teams in recent history.
Florida International comes into this game with a 1-2 record and this is going to be a long season for the Panthers. The only win for Florida International came against Bryant. In the last game against Western Kentucky, Florida International didn’t score and the defense gave up 73 points. They allowed Austin Reed to throw for 381 yards and five touchdowns. Grayson James completed 13 of his 23 passes for 85 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. FIU is averaging 16.7 points while their defense is giving up 50.3 points per game. In this game, if they want any chance to get the job done, the defense is going to need to slow down New Mexico State.
On the other side of this matchup is New Mexico State who sits with a 1-4 record overall but the one win came in the last game. Against Hawaii, New Mexico State scored 45 points and that was enough to secure the 19 point victory. The Aggies don’t have much of a passing game, but the running game was strong in the last game. Star Thomas rushed 11 times for 144 yards and a touchdown. Jamoni Jones also had a strong game rushing 12 times for 59 yards and two touchdowns. New Mexico State is averaging 15.4 points while their defense is giving up 34.6 points per game.
