The high powered Texas Tech Red Raiders offense came through yet again and the Red Raiders won another overtime thriller at home, this time upending the Texas Longhorns 37-34 in overtime. It marked the second-straight home game that the Red Raiders needed overtime to pull out a win, after defeating Houston 33-30 in 2OT just two weeks ago. With the win, the Red Raiders are now 3-1 on the season after playing three-straight ranked opponents.

“I'm really proud of our guys,” Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire said in his post-game press conference. “It was 31-17 and they could have given up at any point. They didn't. We asked them coming out of the half to keep fighting and good things would happen. These guys believe. When you have results like this it just fires that belief up even more.”

It was a thrilling start to the Big XII season for Texas Tech and sets them up for their fourth straight ma tch with a ranked team as they ready for their visit to K-State. Quarterback Donovan Smith led the way with 331 yards passing on 38-of-56 pass completions. He engineered the always gutsy Red Raiders' offense to 6-of-8 fourth down conversions and led the team back from a 24-14 deficit at the half. Wide receiver Myles Price had a career-day with 13 catches and running back SaRodorick Thompson Jr. ran for 70 yards and a touchdown in the come-from-behind win. The Red Raiders finished with 479 yards of total offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, Texas Tech allowed 426 total yards but also held the Longhorns to just 3-of-9 on third down conversions. Tyree Wilson led the Red Raiders with six tackles and a sack.

Texas Tech has certainly been led by their offense as they continue this run through quality opponents. The Red Raiders are ranked 65th in scoring offense and 43rd in total offense. Additionally, Texas Tech is ranked just 102nd in rushing offense but 11th in passing offense. On the defensive side of the ball, TTU is ranked 76th in scoring defense and 39th in total defense. Against the run, the Red Raiders are ranked 37th against the run and 65th against the pass. Finally, the Red Raiders are ranked 85th in turnover differential.
