Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-29-2022

The Oakland A's and the Los Angeles Angels wrap up their three-game series on Thursday night in Anaheim. The two teams are far removed from the playoff picture and will begin the long process of reshaping their rosters starting this winter. On the mound in the series finale will be lefty Cole Irvin (9-12, 4.05) of the A's taking on the Angels' ace Shohei Ohtani (14-8, 2.47). First pitch is scheduled for 9:38pm EST.

The Oakland A's are on course to finish with the second-worst record in baseball and likely 100 losses as the season heads towards the home stretch. The team will need to sort out which veteran players it will hang on to this offseason and which they will hang on to, all while working within the parameters of a tight budget. The cash strapped A's have lost two-straight and have gone 4-6 in their last ten games heading into Wednesday night. On Wednesday against the Angels, the A's fell for the 99th time this season, 4-1.

The A's will try to stave off a 100-loss season over the final seven games but it seems inevitable that the A's loss total will hit triple digits. The A's have struggled with a subpar pitching staff and a hapless offense for much of the season on their way to the worst record in the American League. On the mound on Thursday night will be lefty Cole Irvin. Irvin has been a bright spot in the A's rotation for much of the season, particularly in the spacious confines of Oakland Coliseum. In his last five starts overall, Irvin is 3-1 but with an unsightly 8.31 ERA. He has thrown 28.2 innings in that time and given up 40 hits. Irvin is 0-3 against the Angels this season.
