The A's have struggled with a subpar pitching staff and a hapless offense for much of the season on their way to the worst record in the American League. On the mound on Thursday night will be lefty Cole Irvin. Irvin has been a bright spot in the A's rotation for much of the season, particularly in the spacious confines of Oakland Coliseum. In his last five starts overall, Irvin is 3-1 but with an unsightly 8.31 ERA. He has thrown 28.2 innings in that time and given up 40 hits. Irvin is 0-3 against the Angels this season.
