Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-28-2022

Texas Rangers (65-87) vs. Seattle Mariners (83-69)

The Texas Rangers meet the Seattle Mariners for the second of a three-game series at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, so here’s the best Rangers vs. Mariners betting pick for Wednesday night with the first pitch at 9:40 PM ET.

It’s Game 18 of their 19-game AL West regular-season set. Tuesday’s clash from T-Mobile Park hasn’t been included in the analysis, while the Mariners have won 12 of their first 16 encounters with the Rangers in 2022.

The Texas Rangers are eliminated from the playoff race, but they have a nice opportunity to ruin the Mariners’ season, so there’s something to play for in this matchup. The Rangers entered Tuesday’s battle against the M’s riding a three-game losing streak and have dropped six of their previous eight contests overall.

Texas is slashing an underwhelming .234/.289/.408 in the last couple of weeks and 363 at-bats. The Rangers’ bullpen hasn’t impressed either, tallying a 4.50 ERA in its last 44 innings of work.

Martin Perez will get the nod Wednesday and face the Mariners for the fourth time this season. The 31-year-old southpaw hasn’t been involved in the decision in his previous three dates with Seattle, posting a sturdy 2.12 ERA and a troublesome 1.47 WHIP across 17 innings pitched.

Perez is 12-6 with a 2.90 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 164/61 K/BB ratio in 30 starts (183.1 innings pitched) in 2022. He’s pitched well through his four showings in September, notching a 2.96 ERA and 2.46 FIP. Last Thursday, Perez tossed six frames of a three-run, five-hit ball in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels (Texas eventually won 5-3 at home).
