Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Houston Astros Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-27-2022

Arizona Diamondbacks (71-83) vs. Houston Astros (101-53)

The Arizona Diamondbacks face off against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, and the first pitch is set at 8:10 PM ET. After splitting a two-game set at Chase Field in Phoenix back in April, these two interleague foes start a two-game series at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Zach Davies is projected to take the mound for the Diamondbacks, while the Astros will counter with Lance McCullers Jr. Houston is listed as a heavy moneyline fave, and the totals sit at 7.5 runs.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have played in poor form over the last few weeks, losing six series in a row and 14 of their last 20 games at any location. They own the lowest OPS in the majors in September (.649) while batting a poor .219 with 39 extra-base hits and 27 home runs across 25 games. Ketel Marte is slashing .234/.327/.468 in his previous 14 outings and 47 at-bats, Christian Walker has four dingers and nine RBI in his last 59 at-bats, while Daulton Varsho has homered eight times so far this month.

Zach Davies hasn’t emerged victorious since May 13, and the 29-year-old right-hander is 2-4 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 96/45 K/BB ratio in 25 starts (125 innings pitched) in 2022. He ranks in the 75th percentile in hard-hit percentage and the 20th percentile in expected slugging percentage. Zach heavily leans on its sinker (53.7 usage percentage, plus-7 run value) and changeup (33.6 usage percentage, minus-12 run value).

Interestingly, Davies hasn’t been involved in the decision in 11 straight appearances, posting a 4.14 ERA and 5.48 FIP across 50 innings of work. Last Tuesday, the soft-throwing righty lasted just three innings at Dodger Stadium in LA, allowing one run on five hits and two walks and p unching out three.
