NFL 1st Coach Fired Odds: Pederson, McCarthy, Daboll Lead Favorites
NFL 1st Coach Fired Odds: Pederson, McCarthy, Daboll Lead Favoritesiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

We're only three weeks into the NFL season, and some fan bases are already calling for their head coaches to get fired.

Those calls reached a fever pitch in Jacksonville after the Jaguars' 47-10 loss on Monday Night Football – a result that propelled the Buffalo Bills to near the top of the Super Bowl odds and could cost Doug Pederson his job.

Two other coaches on the hot seat – Mike McCarthy and Brian Daboll – face off tonight with the Dallas Cowboys favored to beat the New York Giants by the Thursday Night Football odds.

A win might be enough to stave off the pink slip for a few weeks longer. But a loss to a division rival? That could be the beginning of the end for either coach.

Along with our Cowboys vs Giants prediction, here's a look at the first coach fired odds heading into TNF.

Favorites to be first NFL coach fired

Firing a coach in the NFL never happens in a vacuum, and Pederson's seat has been warming for years now following a hot start in Jacksonville.

After leading the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl title, Pederson pushed the Jaguars to a 9-8 record in his first season with the team in 2022. He even garnered interest in the NFL Coach of the Year odds.

It's been all downhill since then. Another 9-8 season last year spiraled into misery with Jacksonville losing five of its final six games to miss the playoffs, and Trevor Lawrence has failed to develop after the team inked him to a massive ext ension.

Owner Shad Khan was reportedly livid after his club suffered its sixth-worst loss in franchise history as a short underdog by the Monday Night Football odds, and it feels like only a matter of time before Pederson is sent packing.

He's currently the heavy favorite to be the first coach canned this campaign, with a 42.55% implied probability.

It feels like Mike McCarthy is perennially on the hot seat, which is the cost of doing business with the Cowboys. It's also an indictment of his coaching ability while given one of the NFL's most talented rosters over the last few years.

He's turned in three consecutive 12-5 campaigns in Dallas, but his Cowboys still haven't advanced past the NFL Divisional Round since winning the Super Bowl in the 1995 season. Another early exit in this year's playoffs will almost certainly spell the end for McCarthy in Dallas.

A loss to the Giants tonight could accelerate that move, especially with coaching legend Bill Belichick waiting in the wings. He's the favorite to be the Cowboys' next coach, according to the Bill Belichick next team odds released earlier this month.

However, Mike Spector anticipates a strong evening from Dallas tonight in his Cowboys vs. Giants prediction.

It feels like an eternity ago that Brian Daboll won the NFL Coach of the Year honors, but we're just two seasons removed from that after he took over a mess in New York.

That would seemingly buy him a few years of job security, but the Giants dropped from 9-7-1 in his debut campaign to 6-11 last year. A 1-2 start doesn't exactly inspire confidence in another winning record this season.

The best way to stave off a dismissal campaign is to win tonight against the Cowboys, who can't stop the run to save their l ives. That should mean a significant game for Devin Singletary, as our Gary Pearson breaks down in his Cowboys vs. Giants TNF prop bets for Thursday Night Football.

A loss tonight? That would drop New York to 1-3 ahead of a brutal stretch against the Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers before a Week 11 bye.

John Mara could then decide he's seen enough.

Best long shot to be first NFL coach fired

Are we sure Dave Canales' job is safe? Sure, he was just hired a few months ago, but Canales also works for perhaps the most erratic owner in professional sports.

David Tepper has fired three head coaches in the middle of the season since taking over as the owner in May 2018. He axed Ron Rivera just over a year later and fired Matt Rhule midway through his third season. Frank R eich didn't even last an entire campaign before getting booted after 11 games last year.

Could Canales be on the chopping block if the Panthers keep losing games and fail to develop 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young, who is currently sitting on the bench?

With these +3300 odds paying a $330 profit on a $10 wager, it's a bet worth making.
