The Oklahoma Sooners will dominate the Temple Owls in their season opener. But by how much?
The Sooners' 2023 starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel transferred to Oregon this offseason. Jackson Arnold will take over the reins after throwing 69 passes during the previous campaign. There are large shoes to fill after Gabriel threw for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns.
The Owls will also trot out a new quarterback after EJ Warner transferred to Rice. Warner was the only bright spot on last season's 3-9 team, and the Owls aren't going to be able to replace him.
Since the Owls will be awful again, making the Temple vs. Oklahoma predictions was fairly simple.

There will be some growing pains for the Sooners without Gabriel, but Arnold isn't brand new. He played the entire Valero Alamo Bowl against the Arizona Wildcats last season, and while the signal-caller threw three interceptions, he also managed 361 passing yards.
The Owls allowed 38.1 points per game last season, ranking fifth-most in the nation.
Even if Arnold struggles a bit early, he's still better than nearly every quarterback the Owls faced in 2023. And if he turns it over, the Owls don't boast an offense that can put points on the board.
With Warner off to Rice, an offense that averaged just 19.3 points per game last year is going to be even worse.
We don't expect to see the Sooners' starters on the field in the second half, so taking the full-game spread is a bit risky. The backups could still dominate the Owls. After all, last season Arnold was given meaningful action in Week 1 against the Arkansas State Red Wolves and completed all 11 of his passes. The Sooners won that game 73-0.
But the first-half spread is just much more guaranteed than the full-game line. DraftKings is offering the best price right now among our best sports betting sites, then Caesars.
FanDuel is listing the first-half spread at -25.5 for a price of -120, but that book isn't offering alternative lines. If it eventually does, FanDuel's price will certainly be better than what DraftKings is posting for one of our Week 1 college football pr edictions.

Temple vs. Oklahoma player prop
FanDuel is currently alone among our best sports betting apps while offering player props for this game. Sawchuk ran for 744 yards last season despite splitting time with Tawee Walker. Walker is off to Wisconsin, which means the backfield is now Sawchuk's to control.
He rushed for over 100 yards in five consecutive games to end 2023.
We'd be much more comfortable with this prop if we knew that Sawchuk was going to play at least three quarters. But he should hit the Over with ease even in one half.
Sawchuk produced two carries for 60-plus yards last season, so he could cash the Over in one play. We wouldn't put it past him to do just that after the Owls allowed the seventh-most rushing yards in 2023.
