Intralot Under Scrutiny For Washington D.C. Sports Betting Work?

Washington D.C.'s sports betting system has moved away from Intralot and GambetDC, but the gaming company may still face challenges in the District.

Intralot, which powered GambetDC and runs the District's lottery system, is seemingly being investigated by Washington D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, according to a report from . The scope of a potential investigation is unknown, but Schwalb requested documents from Intralot as part of what looks like an ongoing investigation. The report suggests an investigation could focus on the contractor and its subcontractors failing to conduct promised work.

Intralot drew significant scrutiny in recent years, as GambetDC failed to live up to expectations. The sports betting app struggled to bring in revenue to the District, and its iOS app notably stopped working on Super Bowl Sunday in 2022.

Some Washington D.C. council members were vocal for years that giving Intralot a sole-source contract to run sports betting was a mistake. The system wasn't switched until recent weeks, when multiple betting apps like DraftKings and FanDuel were given access to the District's mobile betting market.
