Charlotte vs. South Carolina Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-24-2022

The Charlotte 49ers (1-3, 1-3 ATS, 3-1 O/U) battle the South Carolina Gamecocks (1-2, 1-2 ATS, 1-2 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Saturday evening. The 49ers earned their first win in a road triumph against Georgia State. The Gamecocks were clobbered by #1 Georgia last week. These foes last met in 2009.

The Charlotte 49ers are seeking their second victory of the season. The first three games of the season were ugly, losing each game by double-digits. They lost to William & Mary of the FCS and dropped a 56-21 home decision to Maryland two weeks ago. Fortunately, the 49ers found a groove last week. They were huge 20-point dogs in a 42-41 road victory to Georgia State. The 49ers' defense has been exploited and has covered the spread once.

Charlotte welcomed back Chris Reynolds after missing the last two games. The senior QB had 196 passing yards in the opener and was dominant last week, accumulating 401 passing yards and three touchdowns. That’s a total of 597 yards and a 7:1 TD to INT ratio in two games.

Shadrick Byrd hasn’t been able to break out on the ground. The sophomore RB only has 162 rushing yards in four games. The 49ers have a skilled WR unit, offering three players with at least 200 yards. Grant DuBose is having an outstanding season, bringing in 319 receiving yards. The Charlotte offense is much better with QB Reynolds back in action.

The 49ers' defense is stumbling in a big way. They have squandered at least 30 points in all three games after squandering 596 yards last week. The pass defense is marked 128th while the rush defense is at 129th. Charlotte is scoring an average of 25 points, ranking them 98th. They are allowing an average of 45.3 points, pegging them 129th in the country.
