World number one Scottie Scheffler was back at it with victory at last week’s Travelers Championship — his 6th PGA Tour title of the year — but there is hope for the golfing world as he won’t be teeing it up in Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Rocket Mortgage Classic golf picks and predictions

Debuting in 2019 at Detroit Golf Club, the Rocket Mortgage Classic is one of the newest tournaments on the PGA Tour and it has been proven to be a birdie-fest each year, with winning scores of -25, -23, -18, -26 and -24. Measuring 7,320 yards, this par-72 course is not long compared to today’s standards and the key club in the bag this week will be the putter, which is why Taylor Pendrith looks capable of challenging for his second title on the US circuit.

The Canadian, who broke his PGA duck in May’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson, is 5th in putting average this season and he has already shown an affinity for this layout after coming joint-2nd in 2022. Pendrith recorded a top-15 finish last year and his form since his victory in May has been solid, with his next 6 starts producing results of T10-MC-T21-T33-T16-T23.
