Euro 2024 Teams & Groups: Odds to Win Group & Historical Info

The kickoff of Euro 2024 is almost here, and according to the odds at our soccer betting sites, a bunch of teams have a solid chance of winning the coveted event, as we offer our Euro 2024 teams and group predictions. 

The eight front-runners, surprisingly sharing a bunch of similarities with the 2024-25 NFL favorites, have the ability to make a deep run. It's all about getting hot at the right time in major tournaments, picking up momentum and avoiding costly howlers. The winning team usually must prevail through at least one tense, stress-inducing round of penalties, so keep that in mind when choosing your futures pick. 

According to the Euro 2024 odds, England, France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal are the five favorites with Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy lurking in the nearby shadow. The tournament kicks off on Friday, June 14, with Germany taking on Scotland. The final is on July 14 and will be played at Olympiastadion in Berlin. 

Here's our breakdown of the Euro 2024 teams and groups, including group winner predictions and potential future matchups, with odds via DraftKings.

Group A standings and odds

Germany is the inarguable alpha in Group A, and they shouldn't have any issue securing first place, which would most likely lead to a Round of 16 match against Slovenia, Denmark, or Serbia – but most likely Denmark. 

While the battle for second should be tight, Switzerland not only have the odds advantage but are also more experienced and have a superior collective. They've advanced to the Round of 16 in two consecutive European Championships and should extend it to three.

Group B standings and odds

Group B, including Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Albania, is the unofficial group of death. Spain should have enough to win the group, but second place will most likely feature a battle between Italy and Croatia.

Croatia usually exceeds expectations at World Cups, advancing to the semifinals in three of six appearances. Their record at the Euros isn't as awe-inspiring, advancing into the knockout stage twice in four attempts, with just one quarterfinal berth. While defending champions Italy aren't as good as they were at Euro 2020, they can never be discounted at major tournaments. I expect Italy to secure second place and move on to play either Scotland, Hungary, or Switzerland in the Round of 16.

Group C standings and odds

Despite history repeating itself with a second loss to Iceland, England should be able to get their act together and secure top spot in Group C. However, Denmark, one of our sleeper picks, have a nice balance of skill and doggedness, the latter of which should help against Serbia and Slovenia. 

Making their first appearances at the tournament, Serbia and Slovenia won't be pushovers, as both teams feature some solid players from top European clubs. However, their relative inexperience and less collective pedigree should see Denmark secure advancement into the knockout phase. 

Group D standings and odds

Group D appears relatively straightforward. There is no way France isn't qualifying, reinforced by their Route 99-length odds (-1600) to advance. Austria and Poland have players that can hurt the Netherlands, including Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Sabitzer and Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski. Still, neither outfit is good enough to secure more points across three matches.  

The -500 odds for the Netherlands to advance don't offer enough value on their own, so you might want to lock in the France first, Netherlands second pick, which offers odds of +165 and an implied probability of 37.74%. 

Group E standings and odds

Group E should be dubbed the group of opportunity. It is the most wide-open group, including Belgium, Ukraine, Romania, and Slovakia. Belgium, the behemoth favorites to win the group and advance, have a bunch to prove after bowing out in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. 

The Red Devils should have enough to secure first place, but the battle for second is as open as my back door on a sweltering summer day. Ukraine are the marginal favorites to advance, while Romania and Slovakia are nipping at their heels. Romania topped their qualification group, while Ukraine had to play their home games at a neutral venue for obvious reasons. Despite not playing any home matches, Ukraine tied with Italy for second place in their qualification group. For that reason, I'll take Ukraine just ahead of Romania. 

Group F standings and odds

Portugal and Turkiye pop off the page in Group F. The Czech Republic, favored ahead of Turkiye to advance, will almost certainly have their moments but I like Turkiye to move on. Turkiye won their qualification group, finishing a point ahead of Croatia, while the Czechs tied for first with Albania.

I'm backing the Turks to make it to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2008 when they advanced to the semifinals. 

Round of 16

The Round of 16 kicks off on June 29 and runs through July 2. The top two teams from each of the six groups and the best four third-place teams (two from Groups A, B, C and two from D, E, and F) will advance. Like March Madness, the tournament becomes a lose-and-you're-out scenario from the Round of 16 onward. UEFA.com shows how the seedings work after the group stage, and what the potential matchups could be. 

If a match isn't settled after 90 minutes, two 15-minute halves of extra time will be played, followed by the dreaded shootout if the match remains tied after 120 minutes. The winners of these matches advance to the quarterfinals. 

Knockout phase

The knockout phase commences after the group stage. The tournament will whittle down from 24 to 16 teams entering the Round of 16. The eight winners advance to the quarterfinals (pla yed July 5 and 6). 

After that, the semifinals will be played on July 9 and 10, followed by the final on July 14 at Berlin's Olympiastadion.
