In last night's game against the Cleveland Guardians, the Chicago White Sox did what they have time and again this season and lost a game that they could or should have won.
But their ninth extra-inning loss and 38th home loss of the season has all but put them on the brink of being all out of hope of repeating as AL Central champions.
A win last night would have pulled them within three games with the chance of really tightening things up, but with a sweep out of the equation now, there is only so much they can do over the final two games of the series.
With 14 games lef t, Chicago is now five games behind Cleveland in the division, and even winning these next two games will still leave them needing the Guardians to have a collapse over the final two weeks of the season.
