Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-20-2022

Seattle Mariners (80-65) vs. Oakland Athletics (53-94)

The Seattle Mariners head to Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday night to start a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics, and the first pitch is set at 9:40 PM ET. These two AL West foes meet for the 14th time this season, and the Mariners lead the series 8-5. However, the A’s are undefeated in two straight meetings with the M’s.

Seattle is a firm -201 road fave to win Tuesday’s battle. The Athletics sit at +184 moneyline odds, while the totals are listed at 7.0 runs.

At the time of writing, the Seattle Mariners played the Los Angeles Angels in the closer of a four-game set at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The Mariners were looking to avoid a sweep and stop their three-game losing streak after scoring just a couple of runs in California over the weekend. Seattle was third in the wild-card race, just 1.5 games behind Tampa Bay and two behind Toronto. The M’s were also four games ahead of Baltimore and five above the Chicago White Sox.

Seattle has hit 27 home runs over its first 15 games in September while batting just .210. During that stretch, Julio Rodriguez and Eugenio Suarez have homered six times apiece, but Suarez suffered a finger injury last Friday and hit the 10-day IL. Rodriguez has missed the last two games due to a back injury, though he should be ready to play against the Athletics.

Luis Castillo will take the hill Tuesday at Oakland Coliseum. He met the A’s on the road in August and yielded four earned runs on eight hits across five innings of work in a 5-3 defeat. Since then, the 29-year-old righty has gone 2-0 in four starts (23.2 innings pitched), surrendering just seven runs (four earned) on 18 hits while striking out 31. Castillo is now 7-5 with a strong 2.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 150/39 K/BB ratio in 22 starts (134.1 IP) in 2022.
