Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-18-2022

The New York Football Giants (1-0) will look for another win as they host the Carolina Panthers (0-1) in a battle between two teams who are looking to prove that they are greater than the national expectations.

Last season the Giants beat the Panthers 25-3 as a three-point home dog on Oct. 24, 2021. Daniel Jones went 23 of 33 passing with 203 yards and a touchdown to led New York to victory.

Carolina got off to a 3-0 start last season but finished with a 5-12 record ending with a seven-game losing streak. The Panthers could not end that streak in Week 1, as they fell to the Cleveland Browns 26-24 on a 58-yard field goal.

Carolina is led by head coach Matt Rhule, who is 10-24 in the regular season after losing to the Browns. The Panthers came into the season with an over/under win total set at 6.5. and are led at quarterback by Baker Mayfield, who they got in a trade from Cleveland. Carolina also added left tackle Ikem Ekwonu in the first round at No. 6 overall in the 2022 draft. The long-term hope is that Ekwonu will help the offensive line that ranked as the fifth worst team in the NFL with 52 sacks allowed in 2021. Protecting the quarterback was still a problem in Week 1, as the Browns sacked Mayfield four times. The Panthers were also out gained 355 to 261 in total yardage during the loss.

In 2021, the Carolina offense ranked last in total yards, 29th in passing yards, and 29th in scorin g. The defense was the strength, ranking second in total yards allowed and fourth against the pass. Carolina was 21st, allowing 23.8 ppg, but the offense can be blamed a lot for that for keeping the defense on the field and not helping them in the field position battle.
